Why Recycled?
Almost every community has a recycling program and, fortunately,
more households and businesses are recycling not only aluminum cans,
but plastic bottles, paper products and glass bottles. Now it's
necessary for businesses and households to choose products made from
recycled materials, thus "completing the cycle."
Recycling, and utilizing products made from recycled materials, is
a crucial element to smart energy use and conservation. In addition
to benefiting the environment, we can make huge strides toward national
energy independence by reducing our reliance on oil. This can lead
to a more secure and healthy world.
Recycling goes a long way toward the inevitable and gradual shift away
from fossil fuels, including coal, the dirtiest of them all. Furthermore,
it helps reduce the viability of constructing and subsidizing more
nuclear
power plants.
Many of our products, if not made using sustainable and
biodegradable
materials from the start, utilize recycled materials as a renewable
resource.
Eco Spun® is fiber spun from recycled, ground down plastic soda bottles,
milk
cartons and other reclaimed plastics that are collected at the curbside and
in
recycling centers.
Keep in mind -
- Recycling can save 650,000 barrels of oil and eliminate 375,000 tons of
harmful air emissions annually.
- Making new paper from recycled paper uses 30-50% less energy than making
paper from trees and reduces contributions to air pollution by 95%.
- The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle will light a 100 watt
bulb for four hours.
- Because glass takes so long to decompose, the bottle you throw away
today might still be littering the landscape in the year 3000.
- The energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate your
television set for three hours.
- It takes 95% less energy to make aluminum from scrap than from virgin
materials.
- For every ton of waste paper recycled, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
is saved.
- Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil.
